The Lenborough Singers formerly The Lenborough Choir originally Padbury Church Choir, was formed in 1988 when Barry Marston, the organist at Padbury Church, set up a church choir of 12 people, including children, to sing at Sunday
Services.
Services.
To begin with, the choir sang hymns and psalms and then moved on to popular choral works such as ‘Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring’ by J S Bach and ‘The Heavens are Telling’ from Haydn’s ‘Creation’, eventually becoming a concert choir.
Following this, membership was opened to anyone in the Benefice. In 1995, our conductor Sarah Wakeman took over the baton while Barry continued to play the keyboard. When Barry retired Ray Mitchell became the accompanist in 2000 until January 2018 when Ian Riley took over the position. Barry then sang with the choir for many years after this.
Subsequently the choir has increased in size to over 60 members and has developed a wide repertoire of music. The music ranges from choral works such as Faure’s ‘Requiem’ and Vivaldi's Gloria to church anthems and arrangements of
Christmas carols, folk songs and spirituals. We also sing popular songs from films and shows such as ‘Summertime’, ‘You Raise me Up’ and arrangements of songs by Abba, The Beatles and Simon & Garfunkel. Why not get in touch today to find out when you can see and hear us live?
